Narrative Art in Film

The works of renowned Polish film director Zanussi are characterised by different kinds of contradictions. By contrasting reason versus emotion, order versus conflict, Zanussi’s films are full of deep reflections on humanity and the state of things in society. During the talk, he will elaborate on the important role of ‘conflict’ in films and other narrative works.

Krzysztof Zanussi

Krzysztof Zanussi is a Polish film director and screenwriter. He currently teaches at numerous European institutions including the Silesian University in Katowice. His first narrative feature film The Structure of Crystal was completed in 1969 and was followed by numerous narrative films and documentaries -- a body of work that is still growing today. Acclaimed works including: Family Life (1971), Camouflage (1977), The Constant Factor (1980) and A Year of the Quiet Sun (1984).
