In the summer of 2014, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress made the decision to impose restrictive limits on the election of the Chief Executive. On 22nd Sep, two major students groups started protesting against this undemocratic electoral system. In a few days, these protests evolved into a mass movement, named "Umbrella Movement," which spread over the major districts of the city for 75 days. At the peak of the Movement, there were more than 100,000 protesters involved.
